10 Effortless Looks You Can Steal This Summer
by Emma L on Apr 25, 2022
There are so many fun and exciting things to get dressed up for this summer! From street parties to barbecues with friends, long overdue holidays abroad or even staycations, the list goes on and on. Of course there are also more casual occasions too such as running errands and picking up the kids from school, but that doesn't mean we can't be well-dressed for them either, right?
Take a look at some of our effortless summer looks that we will be putting together again and again over the next few months. The best part is that they can all be mixed and matched and dressed up or down depending on your mood, the occasion, and the weather! Which one is your favourite?
1. Jeans and a tee
It's a classic for a reason! Elevate your simple jeans and tee look by opting for lighter jeans (acid wash denim is so en-vogue right now!) or even white or off-white, and a T-shirt in a light cotton fabric to keep you nice and cool in the hotter months. Add a blazer, stilettos and a clutch bag to take the look from day to night – a great theatre look, perhaps? – or stick to the sliders and sneakers for a more casual approach.

2. Swap the jeans for other types of denim
Denim goes so much further than jeans, and in the summer months, it's fun to play around with things like denim dresses, denim vests and shirts, and of course, denim jackets to pop over your favourite summer dress when the weather gets a little chilly!
3. A colourful T-shirt to add to your favourite skirts and trousers
T-shirts don't have to be boring, so spruce up your T-shirt game for the spring/summer months and choose tees in bright and bold colours and prints. Elevate the outfit even more with layers of your favourite necklaces and wrap a scarf around your neck for even more dimension!

4. A printed skirt with a simple top
Make the skirt the star of the show and team a mini, midi or maxi skirt in a fun animal print or geometric pattern, for example, with one of your simple summer staple tops. Team with flats for a casual look, or add some wedges and some jewellery to take the look from day to night.

5. A midi or maxi dress with comfy sneakers
You don't have to jet off on holiday to wear a summer dress. Other footwear choices are available, so save the flip flops and sandals for vacation and wear your summer dresses with sneakers or ballet flats if you want to smarten the look up a bit. Layer with a denim or leather jacket to keep out the chill, or add a blazer and wedges to make the look more smart/casual. Don’t forget our favourite look to style your shirt dress open for a bonus look as a Spring duster.

6. A scarf to go with EVERYTHING!
A bright scarf is perfect to add to all of the above (and all of the below!) looks to give them some more colour and dimension, as well as warmth. Go one step further and wear your scarf over your swimwear on holiday, or even wrap it around your body to wear as a makeshift top. (YouTube tutorials will be your best friends if you don't know how to do this yet… it's an amazing skill to learn, and once you learn it, it will change your life and wardrobe forever!)
7. Long sleeved dresses with ankle boots
When the calendar says summer but the weather doesn’t agree, long sleeved dresses are here to save the day, especially ones that come in bright summer colours or fun and exciting prints! Perfect if you don’t want to wear a cardigan or jacket! Rain proof ankle boots are perfect for being one step ahead of the unpredictable weather, but if you're almost certain that rain isn’t coming (we can never be 100% sure in Ireland, can we?!) then swap the footwear for some wedges or espadrilles.

8. Faux leather trousers and heels
Faux leather doesn’t have to be reserved for the winter months, as there are lots of ways to make them look chic and summery too! The key is to choose trousers in a colour other than black (save those for the autumn/winter) and then keep the overall colour palette light and summery. Faux leather trousers are great to dress up with a delicate heeled sandal, but they can also be dressed down with some slides or white sneakers.

9. A mini skirt with a bright cardigan
Play around with your wardrobe and mix and match your seasonal pieces to get the most out of everything you have! Wear a fun mini skirt (although other skirt lengths would also work!) with a colourful cardigan to keep out the chill but stick to the summer colour palette. Pack your favourite bright cardigan in your suitcase if you go away this summer to layer over your dresses in the evening in case it gets a little breezy.

10. Leggings with a tunic for ultimate casual vibes!
Last but not least is perhaps our favourite off-duty casual and comfortable look. A pair of leggings that you can never go wrong with, layered with an oversized shirt on top. We love tunics for this time of the year, as they're a little bit lighter than traditional jackets, and usually come in versatile spring/summer colours! Perfect for everything from supermarket trips to casual coffees with friends, and everything in-between!
