How to wear… prints!
style & fashion
Experimenting with prints and patterns is one of the best ways to add some pizazz into your autumn/winter wardrobe.
We know that the transition from bright summer florals to darker, autumnal colour palettes can be somewhat gloomy, which is why prints are here to save the day!
Prints often have a reputation of being something only adventurous fashionistas wear, but that’s no longer the case. Prints are becoming more wearable every season; and some of our favourite staples have been revamped and given new life thanks to a simple print or pattern.
Here are just a few ways to wear one of the hottest trends of the season…
Make one swap
Even if you prefer a simple, capsule wardrobe filled with staple pieces you can mix and match time and time again, there will always be space for a few carefully selected printed pieces. And the best part is that you can use the printed pieces to pair with those aforementioned wardrobe staples.
For example, swap your go-to white blouse – yes, the one you wear with work suits, jeans, and tailored trousers alike – with a printed blouse such as this Coster Copenhagen python print blouse for a subtle change. (Although there is nothing subtle about python print!) Keep all other pieces and accessories the same, and see your new autumn/winter outfit come to life. We guarantee that you will receive compliments from eagle-eyed fashionistas!

Choose autumnal colour palettes
You may have adored your vivid, floral summer maxi dresses, but there’s sadly no place for them in your autumn/winter wardrobe. (Unless you’re lucky enough to be jetting off for some winter sun, of course; then it’s perfectly acceptable to keep some summer staples at the front of your wardrobe to make packing just that little bit easier.)
However, there’s no need to give up on floral prints completely. Fashion designers know just how sought-after printed pieces are, which is why they have adapted and tailored their collections to be season-appropriate.
Your floral maxi dress has been replaced with a floral blouse in a dark, tempting hue (The Garcia printed dark blue blouse ticks all of our boxes) while your must-have sleeveless printed shirt has been given an autumnal make-over by way of longer sleeves and a darker tone. This Coster Copenhagen lava print shirt is an autumn/winter staple – especially as it can be dressed up or down and worn with virtually everything!

Keep it classic
When you hear the words ‘print’ and ‘patterns’, you may sometimes forget that chic, classic patterns such as tweed and tartan also fall into this category. There is nothing wild or scary about a chic tartan skirt, as it has been in our wardrobes for generations. Tartan will never, and we repeat never, go out of style, which is why we can always justify investing in a tartan skirt to wear with everything.
We love this Access Fashion check tweed style yellow skirt, which can be worn with tights, thigh high boots, and a cosy black roll neck. And while we’re at it, we also wouldn’t say no to this Coster Copenhagen wrap skirt either, which can be worn with an oversized white jumper, ankle boots, and some loud accessories.

Don’t be afraid to clash
We live in a world where pink and red go together like Mac and Cheese, where double denim is encouraged as opposed to mocked, and where prints are meant to be clashed.
We love the idea of wearing some chic pinstripe trousers and teaming them with a polka dot blouse. Or how about this Coster Copenhagen python print skirt paired with a floral print top? A wintery floral dress with an oversized printed coat? You bet!
And if you’re too overwhelmed to do the clashing yourself, you’ll be pleased to know that there are countless pieces that already come pre-clashed! Clash with purpose, and be confident!

If in doubt, accessorise!
Not quite ready to wear head-to-toe leopard print? No problem! Dipping your toe into the print water couldn’t be easier thanks to some simple accessories. Go as bold or as understated as you like!
A tiger print scarf, a patterned bag, or even a tweed wallet such as this Shona Easton red Donegal Donna purse are great introductions into the trend. And who knows, you could be wearing clashing prints on your morning commute in no time…
